I'd throw in cockroaches, scorpions and maggots just for extra-creepy fun.

The right-wing hate-mongers, however, are the only consciously ugly and evil sow bugs of the bunch.

I am with you on all of these, Barb! Sow bugs are actually OK with me, but the rest of them are YUCK. Esp. #5!

Not to get overly technical, but I believe #5 is actually a nematode.

I've never met a scorpion, Charlie, but they do seem to possess that necessary creep-factor. The only cockroaches I have ever met were artist's models and they were really rather striking. I think maggots are victims of negative press associated with that decomposition issue. No excuse whatsoever for the RWHM.

Something about the way that sow bugs curl up when you lift that rock creeps me out, WC. I have no explanation for my reaction. My reaction to #5 is of course self-evident.

I bow to your superior entomologicalness, John.

Oh Barbara, it's sweet of you to use the common name for #5, but the Latin is so much more evocative: Maggotus idiotii

Latin is such a beautiful language, D. I don't know what I was thinking, not using the scientific name! I'm hiring you to relabel all my photos from now on.

Why are earwigs so creepy? Perhaps because you can hear the sound of their bodies crunch when you kill them...

Actually, I'm pretty sure that #5 is a dung beetle...
