And I would peruse their album collection, listening to Mike Oldfield and Genesis, Stringband and Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
Kate's death yesterday was not only a huge loss to Canadian music, but it felt like a personal loss of someone who opened my ears and who whet my appetite for all manner of Canadian music in the decades that followed.
Peace, Kate.

RIP Kate.
How sad. She was still young and so full of music.
It was only a month ago that she performed her final concert, with her family. Incredible woman.
So many Canadians whom I'd admired have died recently: Kate, PK Page, and now Paul Quarrington.
Yes, what a great loss, but take heart and look at her legacy in song and children
I was so saddened to hear about Paul Quarrington's death today too, John. So many so quickly.
She certainly did leave a legacy, you are so right, Gifted.
A lovely tribute Barb. She remains one of my favourite voices, one I have neglected though.
Berni
It just seemed that she and Anna were always part of the fabric of Canadian music, Berni, always would be. Thanks for introducing me, sis.
Pat has another video of the McGarrigles, with friends, here:
Hard Times Come Again
RIP.
I love that video, Charlie, thanks for the link. Man that family can sing!
I was so sad when I heard about this. I remember hearing Kate & Anna through my brother in law who had a large and diverse record collection. I was immediately intrigued and marvel at what they gave us and music.
They were icons, Dale. And what a legacy they leave.
