preparing to storm the Island

The day all you indie kids have been waiting for has arrived - it's the unveiling of the Sled Island final lineup.

Yeah, it may not have some of the jawdroppingly big names that graced the festival last year, but often it's those unexpected discoveries that make all the difference anyway. But you knew that.

The new festival addition that I am most excited about is Jon-Rae Fletcher. It'll be my first time seeing him solo and I am expecting nothing less than greatness, based on the sheer awesomeness of his new album. No pressure, Jon-Rae, no pressure.

l'll also be highly curious to take in a show of Chad VanGaalen's electro-weird alter-ego, Black Mold.

And I remain firmly thrilled about the previously announced acts the Breeders, Holy Fuck, WOMEN, Malajube, Andrew WK, Liars, HEALTH, Final Fantasy, Novillero, Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, etc etc etc etc.

Naturally my top picks all seem to be scheduled to play midnight shows. It's just as well that I no longer sleep.

In other music news, Liam Gallagher is as eloquent as ever, and apparently he hates the Kaiser Chiefs even more than Blur:
"There's nothing worse than a shit Blur.
And at least the original shit Blur are back to finish off all these other shit Blurs.
"

Gotta love those Gallaghers.

That is going to be a crazy, crazy music festival Barb. The line-up stunningly eclectic. Tis the beauty of Sled Island... Looking forward to your up to the minute reports. I would so love to attend.

As for Noel Gallagher... Such a shy fellow. Just when will he come out his shell? Perhaps when his band, the "dung Beatles" actually make a good record in this century.

You know you have an open invitation at Case del Zombie, Sean, should you decide to ditch your responsibilities for a little island time.
HAHA! Dung Beatles! NIIIICE. That's so funny, because it's true. Also because it's funny.
Maybe one day those Gallaghers will learn to just say what's on their minds already.

Ah, festivals! Summer is here. :) Now, here's hoping the acts you want to see are not playing at the same time. I hate it when that happens. I'd love to see Liars. Look forward to your postings!

That looks like such a good lineup. I've wanted to see Final Fantasy play for years.

With my history, ALL the acts that I want to see will be playing at the same time, Al. That's just the way I roll. But choices will ge made and lived with, regardless.
You've got the BV festival coming up in a few weeks too, don't you? You MUST see Elliott Brood! They'll likely even come down and dance with you.

It's frustrating as hell when you have to wait for years to see someone, Remi. Final Fantasy is well worth the wait though. He's surprisingly funny, as well as incredibly talented, of course.

Festival lineup is crazy awesome! You Canadians always get the best lineups. Must be karma. Bet you lot were saints in your collective past lives or something.

You know sometimes when I'm bored I google all the gobbets of wisdom the Brothers Gallagher have seen fit to bestow upon us. And I think my favourite right now would have to be Noel's; "We're not arrogant, we just believe we're the best band in the world.".

Oh joy.

Agreed, BAP, someone really needs to put together a coffee table book of Gallagher witticisms. It would be an immediate best seller and become required reading in philosophy classes worldwide.

Gallaghers have their heads up their *rses

That's some lineup

The Gallaghers are the class clowns of the music business, Gifted. They piss you off for being so annoying, but you miss them when they are gone.
