before you're lost between the notes

If you haven't booked your ticket to Calgary yet this summer, what the hell are you waiting for?

The full line-up for the Calgary Folk Festival has just been announced, and my belief in karma has been restored.

The Decemberists!

I am going to make sure that everybody who comes into the record tent on my shift, leaves with at least one Decemberists cd.

I am also uber-excited about the Acorn, Bell Orchestre, Deep Dark Woods, Michael Franti, Gomez, Iron and Wine, Kid Koala, Carolyn Mark, Mekons, Justin Rutledge, Mavis Staples, Tom Fun Orchestra, Nancy White, and of course everybody's favourite no matter how many millions of times you have seen him - Chad VanGaalen.

See who I have missed here and check out the mainstage schedule here. The mainstage looks like it could even rival the workshops this year. And you know that workshops are where it all happens.

See you on the island!

Alas, my travel budget has been sqandered on a trip to Iceland. I will try to make the western jaunt soon. (Just don't let John know as I want to keep my front step clear of flaming packages.)

Spending all your money in Iceland? Okay, Remi, you are off the hook. That and gall bladder surgery are the only excusable absences.
John will never know of any of your travel plans from me. Pinky swear.

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. I'm seriously going to have to do a road trip!

Wait, you didn't read what Remi said, did you, John, because I promised you wouldn't.

But yes, what an incredible lineup, one that warrants investing in that table top cloning machine, I think. You should absolutely come down.

I'm so lame...I don't know any of those bands

I'll bet you know Glen Campbell and Stephen Page though, Kelly. They're going to be there too. Word is Page is bringing his own supply.

You may need a "supply" just to stay awake and alert for all of this. You are just so lucky Barb to have this in your backyard! (It is in your backyard right?)

Anyway... Best of luck to you. I fully expect you to be sporting the new Colin Meloy "uber pageboy coiff" by then to show support for them Decemebrists.

I am so jealous!

Yup, right in my backyard, Sean. I just know I am going to be cleaning bathrooms and fetching ice all weekend.

I like the Colin Meloy pageboy idea, but I sort of hope that the Decemberists and I can all give each haircuts, in behind the record tent between workshops. You just know they would be up for it.

I'm afraid I can't make it to Calgary & it's not because of a trip to Iceland or gall bladder surgery... but I dunno, I might have enough frequent flier astral travel points to make a swoop past the record tent to persuade more Decemberist purchases with ya. :)

A little bit of Portland heading for Calgary, eh? Enjoy!

Have you heard Marianne Faithful and Nick Cave's cover of The Crane Wife 3?

I would pay good money to see you swooping in on an astral plane, Michelle. It would be a sight of such awesome magnitude that people would drop in their tracks and rainbows would appear in the sky. In other words, it sure would be great if you could come, which I know you can't, but a girl can daydream.

No! I have not, Glassmeow, but I am intrigued. I'll do a little digging,

That sounds fabby, I should look up the dates and see if I can drum up some airmiles ... only half kidding

Make it a quarter kidding and we'll talk, Gifted.
