the great BC odyssey - Vancouver the first day

It's cold and raining in Vancouver, but at least we don't have to shovel anything. Tomorrow the sun is actually supposed to do a drive-by, so that's when we will do a major walking tour.

The Resident Offspring spent the entire plane trip watching Pineapple Express on her ipod. The Spousal Unit did a very commendable job of navigating Vancouver streets, despite being stuck behind a bus driver in training. And I must say my navigational skills were at their peak.

We are staying right across the road from BC Place or GM Place, I forget which is which, but they are right beside each other. And there's a CBC building right across the street from us too. Maybe we should see if we can get a tour after we are done at the university this afternoon. We could practice our As It Happens ladies voices. Issue, tissue.

We watched the cops take down a guy (and disrupt traffic along Robson) from the window of the curry place where we ate dinner last night. That was nice of them to arrange some entertainment for us.

I am so excited that we are having supper with Mel tonight at a Memphis bbq restaurant. Bring on the meat, yo! It doesn't look as though Deb can make it, but hopefully we can see her at some point on Wednesday. 668 might drop by the restaurant to say hi, though. That'd be cool!

I have heard nothing but totally awesome things about Memphis BBQ! I hope you enjoy it. If you want other restaurant recommends, let me know. Afghan Horsemen is really good, and the Sha Lin Noodle house is cool - they pull the noodles right in front of you. There are some good seafood places on Granville Island, too.

I hope the rain lets up so you can get your walk on. Its a great city to wander. Hope the RO enjoys UBC.

So glad you're getting to meet up with Mel for dinner!! Hopefully the Clown can make it too. :) There's a a great greek place on Davie (Davie and Thurlow) called Stephanos...or at least it used to be good (and inexpensive) when I lived there. Good day and good eats!

Barb...I'm so totally disappointed in missing you...will be back this afternoon to report that I (likely) have a job (which explains my absence...a whirlwind of activity here this week on that front).

I'm glad you had a nice time Tuedsay. I'm also glad that I didn't meet with you for the simple reason that we've all (my, Ty, Linds, K, Nan, Papa) come down with a nasty flu and that would not have been a nice "enjoy your visit" gift at all.

Will get back to you later via email from the library (hopefully).

Sadly, we didn't get to try as many restaurants as we would have liked, Wandering Coyote. For some reason it is frowned upon to go out for supper more than once per day, which is very limiting.

We had so many great meals, Al! And even better blog meetups. Wednesday was sunny all day, so the city was really showing off that day.

Meat bellies, too, Dr M.

Of course your statement was the kiss of death on my holiday blogging, Gifted, but you are so cute that I forgive you.

I almost did, 668. It was so great meeting you! You are even funnier and sassier in person than you are online, which is saying quite a lot.

It was a meet/meat festival, Kees. Best of both worlds, really.

I can't stop talking about it, Mr Anchovy. It was incredible.

I wish they had umbrellas like that in the hotel room, JustA but sadly, it was a much more utilitarian affair.

It was incredible to meet you, Mel! I had such a great time and it was long overdue. I love my little wooden fish box, it reminds me of our dinner whenever I see it.

I'm glad we decided to leave the stapler in the hotel room, Jen.

I know, right, Wandering Coyote?

I'm so glad to hear that things are looking positive on the job front, Deb! I am really sorry we missed each other too, but it looks like there will be other opportunities in the coming year.
