this I learned from weekending with the Marthas

- if you find potato chips in the bunk bed, you get 10% off the room price

- when it comes to watercolour, I am more of a paint-by-numbers kind of gal

- a three hour long college production of Romeo and Juliet will damned near kill you, especially if Juliet has an unfortunate lisp

- even when exercising restraint, the Marthas will ALWAYS bring too much food

- everybody likes Lykke Li

- sometimes you can hear people snore right through your earplugs

- I want to try more pen and ink drawing

- people in Red Deer go to Wal-Mart in droves on Friday nights and shop for crap

- someone will always forget their pyjamas, which is how we became so knowledgeable about people's Wal-Mart habits in the first place

-
weekends with the Marthas soothe my soul and refresh my spirit

A lisp? Oh, dear.

But otherwise what a great weekend!

It's always a great time with my Marthas, Wandering Coyote. They make me try things I would never think to do.

A few libations were enjoyed, yes, Gifted, although some of us were mocked for needing to have a glass of milk at bedtime.

I can't decide which was more distracting, Justrun - the lisp, the spaceship-like set, or the weird silver eye makeup. It seems they were attempting avant garde just because they could.

Martha Envy would make an excellent name for a perfume, I think, Phlegmfatale. We could sell it at Wal-Mart.

That does sound rather like a male equivalent of a Martha trip, Kelly. Substitute slot machines for painting classes and they are practically indistinguishable.

I've still never heard anything by Lykke Li but I hear all the cool kids (and Marthas) like her.

Awesome. 10 points for the daubings. Yours looks most excellent, would like a close-up please, and I like the ones of the symmetrical trees. A massive geek might say they look a bit like a pair of cerebral hemispheres. But not me.

This isn't the first time I've been tempted to change my name to Martha.

You need an introduction to her then, Beckeye. Everybody needs a few more Swedes on their playlist.

No massive geeks in your bloodline, Kees!
I'm quite happy with the painting attempt thus far and will try to actually finish it this weekend. Then I shall display it for all the world to snicker at.

I might check with the Wife first if I were you, JustA, but I can certainly understand the motivation.

You Marthas are my absolute heros!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Those were our myspacey photos, Jas. Ever hotel trip needs a few.

It was totally fun, Bridget. Well, except for the 3 hour play.

Just a bunch of old girls being idiots is all we are, Mel.

Sounds like a great weekend. Did you really get a discount on the room?

Can we see a picture of your picture? :)

Loveliest group of Marthas I have ever seen!

It's really kind of neat to see the pure joy on your faces in your pictures. Obviously a very tight knit group.

Good for you for organizing an event like this. Reminds me how much I need to do something like that...

Thanks so much for sharing!

We did, Al! Sandra is becoming impressively assertive and asked for a discount, and received it. She was the one sleeping in the potato chip bed, so she was particularly motivated.
I want to actually finish the painting this weekend, and then I will broadcast it, pinky swear.

We're just a bunch of goofy old girls, Sean, who do enjoy each others' goofiness.
I highly recommend this sort of gathering, especially when more and more of our relationships occur online.

I love pics...they're my favorite part of any blog. Well, besides the writing that is.

Are you kidding me on the paintings?!?!....I want a picture of each and every one of those on my wall. You ladies are amazing...I'm impressed. Seriously impressed.

FTR - wv wasn't showing up....THREE times in a row. Then it told me I'd been "unbut(te)d". What does that mean?

Barbara Bruederlin said...

I haven't got a hot clue what unbuted means, Deb. That's a new one for me!
There was some cheating involved in producing those pictures - we traced the source picture and then built it from there.

Looks and sounds like it was a blast! Sorry about my bad dance moves :-)

We were expecting so much from you too, Dale.

I never miss an opportunity to toot my own horn, Leazwell! haha
