kicking this year to the curb

Blogger Non-Virtual Secret Santa struck yesterday. My gift arrived anonymously, but by process of elimination I was able to determine that it was sent by the splendid Bridget Jones. This is one of the perks of being one of the organizers.

Although the musical figurine looks a little too perfect to be handcrafted (or perhaps Bridget Jones is a figurine-making genius), it looks quite lovely tucked up amongst the seasonal greenery on my mantel, don't you think?

In other news, I have been scrambling to deal with some shamefully neglected items on the blogging to-do list. But I am pleased to announce that I will finish the year all caught up on my book reviews. Please head over to the Bookworm Collective if you are interested in reading my review of:

Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
(damn you, Tanya Espanya!)
*
The Retreat by David Bergen
(not quite Giller, better luck next time)
*
The Chameleon's Shadow by Minette Walters
(rollicking good Brit thriller, gov'ner)

***

I hope you all have a splendid evening of celebrating, or hibernating, or list-making.

At Casa Zombie, we will indulge in our annual year-end blow out of gorging ourselves on King Crab legs until the melted butter runs down our chins and we lapse into unconsciousness. There'll be plenty of time for restraint tomorrow.

And lists, there will be plenty of lists tomorrow too.

I have to admit that I am a little disappointed that Radiohead have not made an annual event of last year's New Year's Eve broadcast, but then they have had a rather busy year, so they are forgiven for wanting to hang out with their families.

Have fun and stay safe tonight, go out and grab the world by the balls tomorrow.
Happy New Year, everyone!

It's the proximity of that good fish store in Willow Park that does it, I think, Urban.

Meeting you and your lovely family was definitely a highlight of my year.

Happy New Year to all the Blondes, and kick 2009's ass!

We hit up the local family restaurant...it was a unanimous decision because the staff know us by name and treat us like friends and the food kicks ass. Not fancy, but that's how we like it.

My Dad's venturing out on his first outing on his own...the neighbors are having a shindig and I'm his DD. So I'm waiting on his call to go drive him safely home (he said "us old folks should be done by 9:30 or so...my bet is that'll be about right).

I did a New Year's list and determined that I saw 133 unique artists last year. And appeared on three albums. 2009 has its work cut out for it!

That is a really nice Secret Blogger Santa gift. I hope for all our sakes that it isn't handmade, though, because if it is I think we might all develop inferiority complexes.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Zombie clan! I hope your year is marvelous (and that it doesn't take 365 days before our next tea party).

That sounds like a charming New Year's Eve, Deb! Low-key family restaurant is just the thing, I think. And you've come full circle to being DD for your dad? That is just so sweet, the 9:30 curfew is even better.

'Twas very quiet, Todd, and that was just fine with me. I hope the year is going to be a stellar one for you!

Right back atcha, BAP! Gonna be a great year!

133 artists? Holy smokes, Ruh! Although I guess if I counted them up, I would have seen quite a few myself. Sadly, though, I have appeared on zero albums. Well done you!
I must come over to read your lists, and here's to hoping we can tea party more often in 09.

I hope it will be a grand year for you and all the cats, JustA!

Happy New Year, Barb!

Sounds like you had a great night in, and have plenty of food to munch on today. I am feeling peckish and off to hunt for some chips and dip.

I have to get to my lists tomorrow...today is for more resting.

Happy New Year to you, too, Al! I sure hope that you are feeling better, and that you were still able to get out to celebrate last night. Chips and dip is the perfect route to recover imo.

AH HA you figured it out!!! Dang! Glad you like the angel, sadly no I didn't/can't make such figurines. Wanted you to have a musical memento. Sorry it didn't get there in time. (((hugs)))

It got here in plenty of time, Bridget! We were well celebrating still, so not to worry.
And it is lovely and will grace my mantle every Christmas for years to come.
