I have a headache, but it was worth it

The raison d'etreI'm not sure if Jerry is fuzzy because of the big glass of wine in his hand or because of the one in the hand of the camera operator. There were about 30 revellers in attendance. Hugs and kisses were distributed with wanton abandon. The law of physics that applies to nature abhoring a vacuum has the same relevance in relation to parties and vacant chairs, which are quickly filled by someone scarfing a glass of wine and a jalepeno popper.

I think the blowing in Sandra's ear would be more effective if Eliz got a little closer.
hahaha I make my guests sit on a crappy old futon (or the floor).
The Marthas together in one room - that's always a recipe for trouble. And she wasn't even drinking.

One of Sputty's favourite spots during the party - a plastic bag on the kitchen floor. Cats are weird.
When Virg brings his guitar, Kelly finds some spoons, Jerry hauls out his dusty old harmonica that the old Scottish nun taught him to play, and Rick lends his dulcet tones, we don't need any fancy-assed playlist.

I wonder what the neighbours thought when we burned the mortgage on the front sidewalk at 12:30 am, with Virg leading us all in a rendition of "Ring of Fire"?

The aftermath.
It was such a fun party. We closed the door behind the last person at 1:25, which is an ideal time for a party to wrap up, in my books. You would almost think the guests had been reading this blog.
The only thing missing was you all.

Oh wow, those are some terrific party pics, I almost feel like I was there. I wish I had been. :O) I especially like the sputty picture. Cat's are weird. heehee. My friend Ty is fond of saying "cats are nerosis, wrapped in fur, with sharp claws"

Glad u had a fun time!!!

You're now mortgage free? WOO HOO! You should have taken a week off of work and headed to Fiji for a vacation! Congratulations Barbara! That must be a fantastic feeling.

John Mutford said...

Congrats! Most importantly on the mortgage, but also on the party. Sounds like it was a blast.

It looks like a great time and although I'm sure it's not, it looks like blue carpet on the walls, haha.

That last photo is one of the best things I've seen lately. Look at the cat. It sums everything up perfectly.

well if that isn't the best damn reason for a party, I don't know what is. Looks like you had a lovely time...I especially like the Martha's pic and the guys jamming - those are my favorite kinds of parties, with the "live" entertainment.

Glad you had yourself a well deserved special night with friends!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

I wish you could have been there too,Mel! I would have liked to seen you join in the sing-along.
I love your friend's theory about cats. Too close for comfort really.

Thanks Karen! It is a great feeling although it will be a while before we start noticing any difference, at least until all our stuff stops breaking down. A trip will happen one day though.

Thanks, John! It was so much fun. It makes me realise that we have GOT to have parties more often. Next time I go easy on the cleaning though.

Blue carpet? What? There's blue paint on the walls in the kitchen, Dale, and really butt-ugly greeny wallpaper in the livingroom that was there when we bought the house. One day it will come down.
Yeah, Sputnik was a little wistful the next morning. I think she missed the attention.

The Marthas are a great bunch, Deb. We always giggle waaaay too much when we get together, which isn't near often enough. And Virgil is a really talented musician who is always more than willing to entertain. You're right - live entertainment sure adds some fun.

It looks like you guys all had a fabulous time! There are few reasons better to celebrate, congrats again Barb :)

I agree with Dale, that last picture is priceless.

JustRun said...

Being sort of new, I really had no idea you had such an occasion to celebrate- very nice!

Maureen said...

Wow, nice party and nice reason for one! Congrats, wish I was there :)

It was a hoot! Ya put on a good party girl! And...the house was sooooo clean! :) Even Eliz mentioned it! hehe (Kidding Eliz!)

I really love the Martha picture and can't wait for Sam to try and upload her's! Sorry the pictures of sputty playing with the balloons didn't work was funny to watch!

It sure was fun, Allison- I'm still tired today, but in a good way. Actually Jerry kept asking why you didn't just "stop in Calgary" to attend on your way home from Van.
I'm not going to tell Sputty that she is getting so mnay compliments on her picture. Her ego is plenty big enough already.

Not many people did, Justrun, as I was going to keep that quiet, but some of those pictures were just begging to be shared.

Wish you were there too, Maureen. You east coasters are famous for your kitchen party abilities.

Somehow there doesn't seem to be any extra money though, 668. I thought that was part of the bargain. Maybe once everything stops breaking down around the house.

Eva and I tried to give Sandra a demo on uploading photos from her camera. In fact we tried loading them up onto our computer, but the USB was different than ours. So we will wait to see how all those Martha shots turned out.
So glad you left Mr Blunt at home though hahaha!

Now there's a reason for a party! Congratulations on being able to tear up your mortgage. Sputty is the only one that looked a little less than thrilled at party time at HIS house! The neighbours were no doubt wishing it was their mortgage being burned.

Leazwell said...

I was wondering how it went - glad to see a good time was had by all, even the cat!

Allison said...

LOL! Next time I will make sure I make the stop! And I'll be sure to coordinate it with the next party you throw ;)

Will said...

Glad it was a funnnn party. And guests should sit on the floor - it humbles them. Does your cat think that all guests are there in her honor like mine???

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks Toccata. I think the neighbours likely thought we were just a bunch of drunken yahoos. Actually they wouldn't have been far off.
Sputty vacillated between being thrilled to have new people to mooch food from and being annoyed that someone was sitting in her rocking chair.

The cat was right in there the whole time, Leazwell. I figured she would check out the first few arrivals and then hide, but no.

I'm going to hold you to that, Al!

hahaha Will - we like our guests humble, oh yes we do. And yes, certainly in Sputnik's opinion, everyone is gathered there at her mercy and to tell her how wonderful she is. Your cat too, eh?

Looks like I missed a great party. To be mortgage free,... that would be a fantastic reason to party. I think I am on the Freedon 97 plan,...or which ever comes first. I think I have mortgage insurance.
Great pictures and no need for that "evil playlist".
I remember waking up at parties with creases on my face from furniture etc. But,.. back then we never had "evil playlists". Probably couldn't even spell it.

justacoolcat said...

You let your guests sit? Way to set the bar so high . . .

Looks like a great time and how I long for the say of burning the mortgage.

Barbara said...

Do you have to wait to pay off your Mortgage before you burn it?
Congrats Barbara and Gerry!
Looks like a good time was had by all.
But I'm a bit confused you didnt play your playlist at all?

Barbara said...

By the way if you want to help name Jian's new baby insidethecbc is taking suggestions for names...
His new baby being his radio show...I note you have the links for both on your sidebar.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Nah, back then we just played our Trooper and Glass Tiger albums until somebody broke the stereo, Bruno. We are much milder now and have way better music. We turned off the music after a while and made our own - it was fun.
We'll have to have another bash when you come to visit, and we'll make sure you don't have furniture creases on your face the next morning.

I was actually trying to get everybody to kneel, JustA, but people are so uppity these days.

I'm not sure what happens if you burn the mortgage before paying it off, Barbara W. Try it and see what happens!
We did play playlist #1 (not the go home playlist) for a few hours but then we turned it off to make our own music.

I can't decide who's weirder, Jen - the kid or the cat.

Ivie thinks her mere existence is something worth celebrating every minute of everyday. Or at least every minute she's awake.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

That's because her mere existence IS something worth celebrating, Will! And didn't Ivie just have a birthday recently? I recall it being very close to Sputnik's.
