I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want ...

Top three bands I want to see before I die:
1. Radiohead

2. Belle and Sebastian

3. the Decemberists

Hairstyle I most want to see make a comeback:

Jesus and Mary Chain hair

Plus I would like there to be another band about whom I could say I don't care if many of their lyrics are lame, they are still seeewww guud!

Band who really needs to release a new album before I explode:

the Weakerthans

Reconstruction Site was a damn fine album, but 2003 was a lifetime ago.

The Reasons [mp3]

Psalm for the Elks Lodge Last Call [mp3]

I also want to lose that feeling of impending dread when I see albums like the Crane Wife being sold in Starbucks. That's just possessiveness on my part. I want the bands I love to do well and I love telling people about them, so why do I feel oodgy when I see their albums being sold like that? Or when I hear their music on tv shows?

Both the Decemberists and the Weakerthans have now had songs on Scrubs, and I am simultaneously thrilled and frightened. At least it wasn't the O.C.

Album releases I am most anticipating:

the Constantines

Bloc Party

Matthew Good (I can't believe I almost forgot - please forgive me Matt)

Oh maaaaan, I saw that yesterday too. The Decemberists at Starbucks. Coffee nearly shot out my nose. I do hope they do well too, it's starbucks mkay? hehe

I feel the same oodginess when one of 'my' bands ends up all over the place.
Thanks for the mp3s!

Oh JAMC hair would be seeewww unbelievably guud! I need to watch the video again, like now.

I've got distracted by saying seeewww guuud aloud I can't remember anything else you posted out.

Wait, yes, the Cons need another album out soon! Is it for sure this year? Excellent. I was listening them this weekend, because I'm a good little Canadian indie girl and I actually have their entire library. You should seriously consider becoming their PR person.'Twas your review that got me hooked in the first place.

Oh, the Starbucks cds!!! Grrr...well, seeing as I loathe Starbucks in general it always hurts my heart a little when I see artists I love selling their cds exclusively there. I guess what you were saying the other day about a different market...but I still don't like it.

Off to listen to the mp3s while I write. I bet they'll be seeewwww guuud. Alright, actually leaving now.

Scrubs is the OC of tomorrow, but on the plus side my friends The Hold Steady got their first big exposure on OC.

I'll take a large mocha.

I have seen Radiohead and would say the wre in my top 10 live bands list!

I am totally looking forward to the new RH album, the live songs I've heard sound great, Johnny is back on guitar and it's gonna RAWK!

So many new albums I am looking forward to this year, Wilco, Radiohead, and the album I am looking forward to yet kind of dreading at the same time... new Pixies.

The Bloc Party album is ACE! you will not be disappointed.

The Crane Wife is being sold in Starbucks? Oh man, as much as I want the band to succeed that's kind of icky. I even like Starbucks. I like it because you can go there alone and you don't get any evil eye thrown your way by the workers about a single person taking up a table. Also, I refuse to get a coffee if I can't find myself a free paper or two to read. As far as I'm concernred the paper is part of the price of a cup of coffee.

It's a very good thing you weren't eating carrots at the time, Mel, because coffee shooting out your nose is bad enough, but carrots, that's serious business.
I know what you mean though, I'm emotionally torn.

Dale, I think the issue is we only want people who are worthy enough to appreciate our special bands to have access to them.
Hope you enjoy the songs. I loves me the Weakerthans!

I wanna watch that video again now too, Allison! It's seeewww guud!
The Cons are indeed promising a new record this year. They are touring the new songs in the spring. Two nights in Calgary, but it's at a club - Eva is right po'd.
No Kingston shows, but here are the TO dates:
March 30 and 31 – Lee’s Palace
(not a Starbucks show in sight!)

hahaha Scrubs is the OC of tomorrow - I'm afraid you may be right, JustA. I hadn't watched it in ages but I saw last night that everybody is pregnant. WTF? I fear that a shark is being jumped.
I don't know the Hold Steady - I will need to check into them.

You've seen Radiohead, Fearless? Can I hang around with you so that some of the charm runs off on me?
I've heard some of the new songs of course, but am really looking forward to the finished product. Johhny is a genius!
Hey I forgot about the new Wilco cd! Yes! But a Pixies cd? Whatever happened to "I hate you guys, you're all assholes"? Mind you, Frank Black did play some Pixies songs at the concert a couple of months ago, so...
Yes - Bloc Party!

I like your attitude towards coffee drinking, Toccata. And I was shocked by the sight of the Crane Wife sitting there. But I guess a band does have to eat...

Pixes new album news

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks for the link, Fearless - hey doesn't sounds like Kim is exactly sold on the whole thing, does it? Could be good for drama if nothing else!

I have not seen the B&S live, but I did see Radiohead. Well, I was in their live presence and could see them on a big screen. It was amazing nonetheless, especially when the lights went down and the opening sounds of "Idioteque" kicked in - my favorite Radiohead song. I also saw the Decemberists in a much smaller venue and that was just brilliant.

Peronally, I hope to someday see my boys in Blur playing live ... that'd be something.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Being in the same venue as Radiohead - that's charmed, Will! Even if they were just tiny little specks in the far distance. And the Decemberists in a small venue - well I would figure that I had died and gone to Valhalla!

From the sounds of it, I wouldn't be holding my breath on the Blur concert, but we all need to dream.

umm, i've seen radiohead. but i missed the decemberists in the midst of my 24/7 working period.

i'm always creeped out seeing cds at starbucks. i keep telling myself that it can only help the bands, and at least people are buying music but.....

Fearless said...

So I went to the barbershop and asked for Jesus and Mary Chain hair, but the barber, after asking me to roll up my sleeves, refused to cut my hair.
I said "what's the problem?"
And he said "No track marks, no JAMC Hair!"

Allison said...

How did I miss the Matt Good has a new album this year?? My head is starting to hurt already from all the great music coming out this year.

Also, another reason to dislike Starbucks. Their snowremoval truck has barricaded me into my apt!! Yes, that's right Ontario got snow. And freezing rain.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

You've seen Radiohead too, 668? You have seen a lot of fine bands too, have you?
That's just cruel to have to miss the Decemberists because of something as mundane as work!

hahaha Fearless, serves you right for not using smack! What were you thinking?

I heard about the freezing rain part, Allison! Brutal. I hate that shit more than anything.
Yeah, Matt's been writing and I think recording, so I would assume he's putting out something this year. Hard to keep up.

668 aka neighbour of the beast said...

yah i've been pretty lucky in my life in regards to seeing gigs. i was extremely lucky and saw radiohead in a tiny tiny venue. and then i think i saw them again. for some reason, i have this huge mental block about radiohead.

haha.. no track marks.. funny!

Maybe the music supervisor from Scrubs reads your blog. That is a terrible thing, isn't it?-- bittersweet? - to want success for your most treasured favorites, and yet to still want to keep them in a shoebox in your closet, enfolded in Tissues of Puppy™, only to share with the select few who deserve to be exposed to such loveliness. Funny how things work out.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

A Radiohead mental block, 668 - how very odd...

Does this mean I'm going to turn into a creepy old cat lady, PF? I suspect it might.

phlegmfatale said...

No, Barbara - you're too well-socialized to be a creepy old cat lady!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Okay then, a really chatty creepy old cat lady, PF....

I noticed that at Starbucks too...AND my boyfriend Damien Rice was there. They get around, don't they (sluts).

I'm really anxiously awaiting Matthew's new stuff...I seem to be stuck on his stuff right now and it's helping me (immensely) through the ordeal. Something about his acoustic stuff just cuts me like a knife.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

hahaha Jen - that's why I did it!

Oh yeah, Matt's acoustic stuff is so powerful. Kills me.
