I've gone on record as saying that electronica sounds really great on a foggy day, but this sounds pretty fine too...
*
I saw the Ladies and Gentlemen perform a couple of years ago when they opened for Matt Good and I thought they were okay, and I listened to the cd a few times and it was okay, but today - another fine foggy grey day - it sounded just perfect.
Thom D'Arcy's breathy socco voce, the lightly electronic music, the well-placed harmonies - yeah!
Oddly, earlier this year, the Ladies and Gentlemen signed with Astralwerks and changed their name to Small Sins (which also happens to be the name of this album). I'm so confused.

Bolt doesn't seem to be imbedding, so please click below to listen to:

Stay - the Ladies and Gentlemen

Note to Allison: check out the "oh please stay" line. I think you'll like it.

How right you were!! I took a listen, and then clicked back onto to comment and read the 'note to allison'...I was going to comment on that line...lol. I really enjoyed that clip, I've already listen twice. I also really dig the line, 'like your highschool crush made you pass your papers in late.' His voice sucks you in. I'm going to have to search out more of their stuff, another one that almost slipped under the radar. Thank goddess for the music blog checks and balances! Thanks for posting Barb :)

Barbara I'll have to come back to the delights of Matt Good, because the album I'm listening to requires my attention for review purposes.

I'll be back.

Main reason for coming here.

MY PACKAGE CAME THIS MORNING !!!!!!

Wow that was quick. Thankyou so much and I'll have a jolly good time listening to all your picks.

I don't know why it took me so long to discover I liked them, Allison. I've listened to the cd before, but suddenly my ears were opened. (I did think of you right away when I heard the please line, though.)
We Won't Last the Winter and She's the Source are a couple of other good songs on the cd, that have lyrics that are very evocative.
He has an interesting voice, doesn't he - perfect for November.

Unbelievable, Ben! That was less than a week! Your letter carrier must really like you. I'm so glad you've received it already.
And I am totally excited about your album reviewer job - I cannot wait to hear more details.

I just got your cd package, and it was like all 8 days of hanukkah rolled into one!! You card also made me laugh, especially the end. Expect another email later on after I've given everything a listen, just wanted to say a quick thanks :)
THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!

Funny how that is ... I've had that experience, though, where something all of a sudden just sounds brilliant. It's like something inside just clicks and you feel like you "get it." A great feeling.

Oh yes, like it very much. Like his voice, like the lyrics, and like the little melody that is constantly in the background - it pleases me greatly.

Oh bugger. Sorry, my mistake - it said some bollocks about the network resetting so I said 'try again' and it did, so now I've got two comments. Well, actually it's now three. I'll get my coat shall I?

That definitely could be a great grey day song. I could see myself doing the chores with a little extra "zip" with that on Barbara. Speaking of chores.......

Ah I read Allison and Ben's comments and rushed out to the mail box, but no sign of the post office elves yet *Sniff sniff* I'm dying of curiosity lol!

Yay! Hanukkah comes early this year, Allison! I'm so glad you received your package. Hopefully you'll have some good studying tunes on there. (can't remember what I wrote on the card to tell you the truth, but I am glad to hear that I was funny - because sometimes I wonder.)

It is a great feeling, Will, and then you wonder why didn't I get this before? Sort of like biochem, except that never happened with biochem for me.

Oh that crazy Blogger is toying with you, Kees. Yes, get your coat and I'll take you out for a beer. I like that little melody as well. It should drive me crazy, but it doesn't.

Or sipping coffee, Deb, you could sip coffee to that as well, which is what you should be doing with your sore back.

Awww, so sorry, Mel. I don't understand HOW the postal system works. It is absolutely counter-intuitive. Soon, I hope.

I just listened to that song on bolt (2X), and I really like it :)

Ps, it's not you, it's that darn mailman. LOL He's trying to torture me XD I will have to watch out tho, once my grama sent me a parcel, and I got a "Final Notice" card from the post office 3 weeks later.....I never got a first notice!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Yikes, you don't want to get on the bad side of the letter carrier, Mel. My sister-in-law did and her Christmas parcel showed up on her doorstep all smashed up.

Ohmygawsh! I was just joking about the letter carrier, but now I will be especially careful *G*

Oh yeah, I got my package too!
I am a going to have a listen while I clean up the kitchen and make dinner. I was going to watch the Hour on my computer, but that's not happening today...Boo!
This cd certainly makes up for it though.

I am a little slow on the sending, so for that I apologize. I have the cd half ready to go. Just have to do the playlist and the cover. And I am waiting to to the xmas cards and photo with Santa. Hope you don't mind ;)

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Well it likely was coincedence about the smashed parcel, Mel, but we like to bug her that it was the carrier extracting revenge on her.

Yay, I'm so glad, Serah! I hope you find some stuff you enjoy on there.
The internetz is all wacky isn't it?
Promise me you will take your time on sending the cd - it's supposed to be fun, not a chore.

DOh! I'm on a computer without sound. I'll have to check it out laters.

Mean mean computers with no sound! They are only marginally less mean than those that won't stream properly, JACC.
