In the hands of Canada Post...

The victory cds are winging their way to you. I took them down to the post office this morning, kissed them each goodbye and god-speed, and entrusted them to Canada Post. So start looking for them in a week or so, depending on how far those horses have to run. Or swim.
Eva signed up for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this year. Starting on November 1, participants have one month to write a 50,000 word novel. She's about 2 percent done and damn if it's not a really good story so far (and well written!)
Eva, stop stealing my life! (as you always tell me)
The dude at the pet store, where I bought cat food this morning, was telling me he had a stiff neck from last night. Naturally I asked him what he was doing last night and he told me that he went to an:
Iron Maiden tribute concert
"Too much headbanging, I guess", he told me.
HAHAHAHA!! God I love when store clerks tell me shit like that.

A novel in a month. That's unreal...please send my praise and best wishes to Eva! Is she taking pre-orders for the novel yet? If so, put me down for (1) copy. Seriously!

...and I'll pay extra if she signs it.

Heh! You bought kitty food from had whiplash from a faux-Maiden band? It is stories like this that warm my heart.

Wish Eva good luck or break a nib or whatever you say to an aspiring writer. By the way, I finished a novel recently...soon I may read another.

WRITE ON Eva! That's so great. I've heard of the National Novel Writing Month before...I think it was at Dale's blog.

and YAY for Victory CDs! I've been trying to guess what songs will be on it! :D

I'll get her to start practicing her autograph right now, GOB. I smell a lucrative opportunity here (mama wants to retire).
It's hearing stories like the Iron Maiden tribute injury that make all those mindless chores worthwhile.

Eva's friend Ruhee did the NaNoWriMo last year, Mel. I'll be interested to see how far Eva gets. I think it's pretty great she's even trying.
And I am NOT telling what's on the mix ... nyah nyah nyah!

Allison said...

Wow...that is really impressive. I'm struggling with 20,000 in three months. As Mel says 'Write On Eva' :)

I await Canada Post...loved the picture btw!!

As I'm in the outer reaches of neverland mine will be the last to arrive. It's just not fair, I wanted to steal a march on everyone.

50,000 words ! That takes guts, determination and dedication. Good luck to Eva.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

But as you are well aware, Allison, there's a vast difference between writing something that has to be focussed and on topic and writing whatever you like. It's still a lot of writing though.
I liked that picture too; it feels vaguely Christmasy without being overwhelming.

I should have held off on sending the others until yours had a head start, Ben, but I was so excited to send them. Hopefully the horses that are assigned to your mail carriage will all be strong swimmers.
I'll keep you posted on the writerly progress.

YAY! I can post comments today!
First of all, WOW! The zombie family album was very cool! I luv Eva's costume! You looked a little scary Barb! Staring at those wide-eyes with the dark circles around them kinda freaked me out!
I had to post because of your Lyrics That Got Me Through The Night...I really had this moral dilemma going with that song by the VF. I felt like a total baby-killing bastard when I'd listen to it...but then I'd go, DAMN that's a catchy tune! It was a struggle for me and always has been...until now! I've never met another who appreciated the Country Death Song!! Gawd I luv the Zombie...U R the Queen!

hahaha Mrs Ritchie - you should have seen poor Zonghang when he walked into the lab and saw me dressed up. He was right startled!

Eva's costume is of course courtesy of Value Village, the home for all cool things, even if you are a total baby-killing bastard. hahaha love those Violent Femmes!

You know you're old (ie: me) when people are going to see "tribute" bands and you used to listen to the real thing when it was first released. Oh god, I want to crawl into a comfy chair, wrap myself in a blanket and eat pudding.

Karen said...

Oh yeah......Oooooooooooooooooo! I'm all a-tingle with anticipation at the thought of the CD on it's way to me!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

"I want to crawl into a comfy chair, wrap myself in a blanket and eat pudding" - Karen, that is precisely how I want to spend the winter. My measure of how old I am is by what songs become elevator music.

And you know, you will be one of the first to get your cd, as you are pretty much the closest.

Karen said...

Ha ha ha! I WIN!

Will said...

Well first off, I am mad excited ----- hold up. Give me a beat...

First off, yo, let me say
I'm crazy happy bout the mix cd coming my way
curated by the btz
for takin down office depot cuz they so sleazy

a novel is a hard thing to write
tried a few times but i gave up in my spite
mad props to eva for given it a shot
sounds like she's giving it all she got

don't no much about iron maiden
and can't think of anything that rhymes with maiden
but hope dude at the pet store had a good time
been a little while, but i still can rhyme

Will said...

if you look above at all my grammatical errors, you can probably imagine why write a novel would come hard...

justacoolcat said...

Is there such a thing as too much headbanging?

Barbara Bruederlin said...

You know it, Karen!

Oh my good lord, Will! I love you man, that is brilliant! And I love these guerilla raps that spring up in the comments. Very subversive.
A novelist you may not be, but you have rapped your way into our hearts.
(in a pinch, hatin' could rhyme with maiden)

That, of course, is the eternal question, JACC, the one that will be on all our lips as we shuffle off this mortal coil. I guess we'll have to wait till we go to our reward to find out.

John Mutford said...

Good luck Eva!

(And Barb, I think you were hit with some annoying spam)

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks John, spam has been dispensed with. It happens periodically but they don't survive long.

Have you ever tried NaNoWriMo?

Value Village is the only place to go for the most awesome costume apparel, I'm certain of that. Such savvy shoppers you are!

Good luck to Eva, I'm putting my MontBlanc (if I had one, hah) on your sweetie's pen. She'll kick ass - doesn't she always? :D

Iron Maiden tribute?!? Tribute? Am I that old?!?

668 aka neighbour of the beast said...

that's funny. i got an email from a pal in calgary today mentioning that iron maiden tribute band!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Value Village completely rocks, Michelle, especially at Hallowe'en.
Eva wrote another 1000 words after school today, so if she keeps this up, she could do it!
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I heard about the IM tribute band, well no actually, I laughed, but part of my soul died.

That's wild, 668. I wonder if you know the dude that works at the pet store.

668 aka neighbour of the beast said...

hmmm, i wonder if i do. i don't think i know anyone that works in a pet store, but one never knows. i wouldn't be surprised if i did. the world is much smaller than one thinks.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Amen, sista!
