Isn't It a Beauty?
I'm so excited about my new toy - a Toshiba P100, with a 17 inch screen! This takes care of my birthday/anniversary present. Jerry actually wanted me to buy myself a new fall coat, but I don't care about clothes.
I have to leave it plugged in for the first 3 days, to charge up the battery properly, but after that I will be wandering around the house continuously, with my new baby cradled in my arms.
In the meanwhile, I have a lot of music to load up and a pile of files to transfer, and I still have to figure out how to set up my email.
This is perfect timing for the planned assault on Office Depot. Yes, just when you thought it was safe to go back into the store, I am pleased to announce I will be escalating action against that company, as I think I have shown considerable patience in waiting for them to make things right with me. The last message I left with the regional manager today was that I would wait until Monday to hear back from him (he phoned me back on September 2, and since then, not a word from anyone at the company) and at that point I will be forced to take accelerated action, starting with senior management at Office Depot, notification of their policy to the Senior Manager of Materials Management at the University of Calgary, plus a concentrated contacting of the media, including CBC television, which is launching a program called Underdogs. Underdogs will be hosted by Marketplace's Wendy Mesley, and the producers are calling for people to contribute their stories of their battles with companies about products or service.
Is that perfect timing or what?
Oh. It's on!

OH WOW! What a beautiful new toy! I would sleep with it on my pillow the first week LOL. I love your plan of attack. That new show sounds great, and the timing couldn't be more perfect. They will rue the day!

I am stoked, Neil! I'm really looking forward to watching your film debut on my laptop.

I was thinking of sleeping next to it on the desk where it is plugged in, Mel, but then the warm blankies on my bed won me over.
Thanks for the words of support on my war on bad customer service. I'm getting pretty stoked about this battle.

Uh-oh ... maybe the Michael Moore in me will have to come out after all. Fahrenheit: Home Depot or Bowling Over Home Depot ... actually, Peter and Me - I like that one.

Congrats on the laptop ... that should be a blast. Uploading music is the kind of task I look forward to.

Soooo pretty. What a present! You must be so proud.

Barbara, Barbara, Barbara!!!! Go get the bastards. I can't believe they haven't taken taken this more seriously - they gonna regret it!!!!

LOL @ " Jerry actually wanted me to buy myself a new fall coat, but I don't care about clothes."
Congrats on the purchase, I love my laptop, I'm sure you'll put it to good use!

Go get those Office Depot Bastards! I'd assumed everything was good now, I shall put the disclaimer back up on my sidebar.

Escalating the action!
Sounds like a plan!

hahaha Will - yeah, Peter and Me - that's the title! Does Michael Moore know he is about to be replaced as the regenade bulldog film-maker? I think it's only fair to warn him.
It's going to be cold and rainy here all weekend - perfect weather for uploading music. woohoo!

Thanks Kees! Those bitches are going down, I'm telling you. No more Ms Nice Guy.

Oh thanks Allison, I appreciate all the support on the Office Depot war.
I'm glad to hear you love your laptop. I was wondering if I would be as comfortable as with the desktop, so it's good to hear yours is great.

Woohoo indeed, Hilary. Things are about to get rather interesting around here.

I love Marketplace!

I hope they use your story.

I'm not a big fan of laptops but it certainly does look pretty :)

Way to go Barbara! Don't back down. Keep hammering away at them until you get satisfaction. Definately follow through with the media threat! Both of our local news stations here (CTV and Global) have consumer reporters who do that sort of thing. Glad to hear the CBC will also be doing that. I think that even if he does get back to you, you should contact the media anyways and let them know about the "service" (or lack thereof in this case) you received.

PS: I still haven't written McDonalds. Damn. I'm going to that tonight.

laptop? Did you get a mouse with that?

I like it! My computer just broke so I'm debating on what to do. At this point I'm still just staring at it, hoping it will work again, but I think it's time to move on. A laptop may be in my future as well.

Oh I saw a commercial for Underdogs at thought of you instantaneously. As for computer love, I have a Toshiba too, not quite so fancy but I love it just the same. I haven't bothered with the wireless thing yet and my apartment is pretty small so no wander around the house for me. It does reach to my bed if I want to lay down and watch movies or whatever.

I'm kinda hoping that Office Depot doesn't call me back before Monday, Justa, so I can call CBC and bitch to them. I'll let you know if I do.

Ill make a deal with you, Karen. I won't give up fighting for my rights, as long as you don't. We'll keep each other pumped.
And yes, you are right, regardless of the outcome, the world needs to be warned about this type of adversarial attitude that Office Depot has toward its customers.

Barbara W, it's got a mouse pad built into the keyboard, but it's not a stupid little roller ball; it's a nice big (for my clumsy fingers) pad that's really easy to work.

Oh my heart goes out to you, bhw. Having had far too many computer problems in the last year, I think I know the pain and frustration you are going through.
I think I'm going to really like the laptop; I'll let you know for sure in a couple weeks.

Sarah, you do fancy stuff like watch movies on your Toshiba? I'm in awe. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I did watch some video cips...
So you think that Underdogs would be interested in this battle with Office Depot? I'm totally calling them Monday.

hmmmm .... maybe i'll just be the michael moore for canada. but he does really like canada.

GOB, did I ever tell you just how much I appreciate your becoming involved to such a large degree? Evryone has been so supportive, but to have you willing to do all this extra work (because we all know you have such a short commute to work and all), is truly touching. Thank you.
Sunday at 11:59 pm is zero hour as far as I'm concerned, but I will keep you informed as to whether I get a response before that.

Will, he does seem to hang here quite a bit (or at least he used to), but I'm sure that Michael Moore will be pleased to know that the hard-hitting documentary film-mkaing needs of Canada are in your capable hands.

Shiny new toys are always nice...I'm so happy for you. Please promise you'll never be like my son and be caught carting it off to the john with you, ok?

Underdogs sounds like a great idea...kind of an "Olsen on your side" (which is what we have here).

I have an ongoing battle that I'd like to submit for consideration - if you can get any details it would be very much appreciated.

I hope your Office Depot issue gets resolved. But sometimes, the longer you're ignored, the more it plays into your case....patience, dear, patience!

That is a sweet toy. Remember to turn on Cleartype and go crazy. It took me forever to load music onto my laptop and set up my wireless home network. But it's done now and I'm home free.

Yeah!!! Congrats on the beautiful laptop!!! I love mine! I hope you have as much fun with yours!!! I love that I can take it with me when I go away later this week...I will take the small speakers and have my own little stereo in my hotel room!!! Wahooo!

Keep with up with Office Depot...they have no idea what they are in for...

You Rock!

See you in a couple days!!

That looks like one awesome computer!!!
You should totally contact Underdogs! Oh, that will really show them :D

Barbara Bruederlin said...

You caught your son taking his laptop into the can, Deb! hahaha that's almost as bad as taking a cell phone with you.
I will definitely keep you posted as to details on Underdogs.

Thanks Jeff, I'm going to go check out the Cleartype right away.
The wireless seems to be working okay so far, and I am patiently transferring all my music over, but that will take a while.

Thanks Bev, I hope your trip and courses go well! Isn't it great being able to take your life, er computer, with you when you travel? Mine has built-in speakers (harman kardons!) which is really handy.
Looking forward to dinner together next week. Have a safe trip.

Thanks, Becky. I will definitely be contacting Underdogs unless a miracle happens over the weekend.

Oh Barbara, some people have little fluffy poodles to cuddle, Rosary beads for spiritual reassurance.
Kick out pets, friends and family and fall in love with a wireless modem.
Modern romance, huh ?

phlegmfatale said...

ooooooh, that new laptop shore is purty!
Good luck in your struggle against the evil empire of Office Depot. Kill! Kill! (I can't believe they haven't resolved this for you, yet. That's just bad business.)

Barbara Bruederlin said...

hahaha modern romance, indeed Ben! But if this laptop doesn't buy me a box of chocolates every now and then, I'm going back to the old-fashioned romance.

Thanks, Phlegmmy. Yes, I can't believe the bad business practices that Office Depot is using. I will only hurt them, though, if I have any say in the matter.
