God I Love the Constantines, Part II
I finally got to see the video for Working Full Time, and, knowing the Cons, I did expect it to be somewhat more inventive than your standard performance video.
Actually I was told to expect "performing rocks".
It is quite brilliant. And if anybody knows anything about film-making (I'm staring directly at you, Will), I would love an explanation of how they did the rock thing. I have an idea of how it was done, but I'd love to know the truth.
Here 'tis:

Told you!
Now that's a rock performance. ;)

Clever editing I think Barbara. A little like Nick Park's "Sledgehammer" video for Peter Gabriel. It must take these guys ages to arrange the rocks and then take Still shots and edit them together.

Oh yeah, the Art Attack guy! I used to love watching him, Mel. This would be Art Attack x 1 million. Hopefully there's some computer help with all the shots in the video.

You most certainly did, Sarah! And you were so right - this was pretty amazing, I can appreciate why you didn't want to get into more detail about it. Thanks for telling me about it.

I think they must initially use performance footing as an outline against which to arrange the rocks, don't you think, Ben? Because the movement flows so naturally.

It looks like stop motion animation to me. Move the rocks, take a picture... perhaps I'm wrong.

It's a pretty decent song though, Barbara.. first one of theirs I've even heard. Recommend any others?

Oh you just had to open that door, didn't you, Neil?

I sure can recommend some more songs. If you like the more aggressive hard-driving rock with punk sensibilities, check out their debut s/t cd. Arizona or Young Offenders are good examples.

Young Lions (which is in the other day's post of concert footage) and On To You are good choices from their 2nd cd, Shine a Light.

And Soon Enough and Draw Us Lines are both pretty amazing songs from their most recent, and more refined cd, Tournament of Hearts.

Oh hell, check your email!

I watched this trailer for a movie with Zack Braff called "Last Kiss" or something like that.

Anyway, there was this song on it that I Liked (Chocolate) by a band called "Snow Patrol"... so I've been searching around the net and got some songs from this album "FINAL STRAW". It's good stuff. You may like it...

Well bugger me I never knew Nick Park did Sledgehammer. Obvious really. It could well be stop motion, my friend's flatmate worked at Nick Park's place and it was actually his job to move things a tiny amount, take a pic, move it a tiny amount, take a pic, move it a tiny amount etc etc etc. But I agree with you about the timing Barbara it's absolutely spot on.

The is a seriously artsy clip ... but the rock thing is a bit out of my league.

I must be completely out of the loop - I have no idea who the Constantines are.

I've only ever heard a couple of Snow Patrol songs, Neil. They weren't at all bad. I'll have to seek them out - thanks.
A new Zach Braff film? oooo!

Doing stop motion would drive me completely bonkers, Kees. I am very detail oriented, but you would have to be a lunatic to do something of that magnitude.

It is a pretty cool video, though, isn't it, Will. Of course, the Cons could post one long shot of their grocery lists and I would think it was brilliant, because ... well it's the Cons, isn't it?

Hi Karen, welcome! Don't feel badly, many people share your affliction. But we can soon cure that if you are willing, and you will be stricken with cure - ie believing the Constantines to be one of the finest bands in Canada, nay, the world.

That is one cool video. I have that song on a mix somewhere. It got heard in the car on the way to Toronto. I am sure I will be working full time soon enough. The interview went well. I still can't access my email yet so if you need to send me a message my blog works best.

Come to think of it, one long shot of a grocery list sounds like a brilliant video ... i'm gonna have to pitch that around.

That song will definitely drive you to Toronto, Barbara W! It's a pity you didn't have any little rock piles to arrange but I imagine you needed to keep your eyes on the road anyway.

Will, I get 20% of revenues!

Grocery lists are cool...

I love this site but it's not updated nearly enough - but proof that people love a shopping list! Do it Will :)

Kees, that site is brilliant! And that reminds me that I must pick up some musical fangs today...

Michel Gondry has a bunch of videos that play on the same theme:

White Stripes- Fell In Love With a Girl (done with Legos)

Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man (done with thread)

Some people have such great vision in their videos, John. They are so refreshing. I am sick to death of straight-up performance videos or, worse, the cars, bling and half-neked women ones.
