A tiny bit of clarification here...

If you are not entirely sick of hearing about me yet (I think I sort of am, actually), I should let you know that the CBC Radio piece actually aired yesterday and it is quite different from the one that was originally on the website.

  1. There are a few embellishments that I feel I need to correct, however:

1. I am not the most popular blogger on Blogger. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

2. I do not have several hundred readers per day. Not by a long shot.

3. I have never stayed up all night writing posts. Usually it's birds that keep me awake all night.

And contrary to the impression that I got, I do actually work for a living. Maybe not very hard, but technically I do work.

Next week, the Eccentricity segment will be about a woman who has fought Mattel and won the right to use the name Barbie Shop for her sex toys store. I am honoured to be in such esteemed (and interesting) company.

Since you're the most popular blogger ever, heck probably the most successful Internet site since Lesbosluts.com, I figured this might be the perfect venue to get out a small request to your millions of daily readers. Friends of mine, Cecile and Pierre, are hoping to win a "Married on the Midway" contest to be married at the Calgary Stampede. But they need votes. And since we're all such a close-knit family here, I'd like to call in a favour. You can vote for them here. Please, pretty please. Heck, you can even show up in person to watch!

John, it's precisely that kind of ass-kissing that will get you places. OF COURSE I will vote for them - and I encourage my millions of minions (almost delivered that with a straight face) to do likewise - vote early, vote often.

Cecile and Pierre it is! Like you say, they are practically family.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

John: just voted - and aren't they just the cutest couple. Sweet as a baby back rib, indeed. They deserve to win!

John Mutford said...

Thanks for the vote. Their profile is quite hilarious actually. Doesn't really capture them at all, except for their goofiness. Cecile is originally from France but came to St. John's while a teenager and became friends with my wife at University. She moved to Calgary while working on her doctorate in Biology where she met Pierre (who despite his name isn't French). Despite her academic achievements, I wouldn't be surprised if she gave it all up to be a professional ballerina any day. And she fences too. Plus, I need them married because they visited last year and my daughter was quite smitten with Pierre.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

This would be your 4-year-old daughter?
Yep, best get that cradle-robber married off. Well, they sound like quite the pair(Pierre and Cecile that is, not Pierre and your daughter). Certainly deserving of a big weird Stampede sendoff.

I voted too...

John Mutford said...

Thanks Alana!

And yes Barbara, that's her. She likes them older I guess. It was quite funny. She'd bat her eye lashes and sigh "Pierre." Too cute. Cute for now. If it happens when she's a teen, there's going to be trouble.

I voted for them too John. Good luck to them.
Barbara B I like the new one but it still leaves me wanting to hear more. Maybe we can get you on Jian's show to promote the Stroumboulopouli, and your own blog of course...Not that you need promotion, you have hundreds of thousands of blog faithful.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Way to support the community there, Alana!

Oh hoho, John, methinks you are in for some interesting times with your girl. Do keep me posted as she grows up.

Good voting skills, Barbara W!
And it's millions and millions, don't you know? Thanks for the sweetness.
Yeah, we should suggest that, get us on SLC to promote ourselves and the stroumboblog in exchange for this pimping that has been suggested to us. It would only be fair.

Barbara said...

That would be very fair. You tell 'em.

Thanks for the corrections, because I was about to call the Smoking Gun. Even if you're not the most popular blogger in Calgary, you are still the most popular in San Francisco. At least the part of San Francisco known as my apartment. Hope the radio interview brings a lot of traffic to the site. It was really cool to hear - I thought you were very articulate and spoke well about blogging. You brought in some postmodernism as well, which was very interesting. I kind of feel like, "one of us made it" - the us being the people whose blogs I read and in return, they read mine. Congrats ... that was awesome.

John Mutford said...

Thanks Barbara!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Barbara W, I just might do that. I just might. Let me sleep on it.

Awww, Will, you are so sweet! Thank you so much! (I'm all choked up now!)
I didn't mean to get all postmodern on you, but had to give a nod to the global culture in which we play. The connections that I can form with a means of communcation like blogging mean as much to me as a lot of those that I have in real life, to a certain extent. After all, that's how I meet beautiful people like you.
But I really think that you should be saying that "SOME of us made it", with the way your film-making career is taking off. I can hardly wait for your next podcast - the fellow from Twilight Singers, am I right? That'll be awesome.

You're most welcome, John! What did I do?

John Mutford said...

Barbara B, The thanks was to the other Barbara (for voting). Maybe from now on, I'll simply call you Barbara B and the other Barbara will be without the second initial. Geez, that sounds even more confusing.

Will said...

You're welcome, Barbara. Actually I've got a bit of a backlog of footage i need to edit for the podcast. I think the order will probably go...

Boy Least Likely To
Howlin Rain
Kelley Stoltz
Twilight Singers

Hi! I just realized that I posted my comment about your CBC interview in the wrong area...I am learning how this works. Very interesting mode of communication!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Oh John, it's so confusing, so many Barbaras, so little time. I've been calling the other Barbara, Barbara W and myself Barbara B (BW and BB for short) if that helps.
oh oh oh at work today I saw posters up for your friends, Cecile and Pierre. Do one of them work in the Health Sciences Building at the university? What a tiny world!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Will, I'm impressed. You HAVE been busy. And you are really getting around and meeting some up-and-comers. You are turning into a Playa, my friend. And I shall wait for these upcoming podcasts with baited breath.

Hey no problem, Laurie. I do that all the time. It's fun, though, innit?

i undertsnad what you say about embelishments....over the years i have been interviewed a couple times...i have been very careful about what i say and they are very careful about editing it to the slant they want...i now refuse..i will not even give any consideration to anything other than "i can't comeent..you will have to wait for a statement from the chief"

kelly said...

ps..i'm overwhelmed to be able to comment on the most popular bloggers in the UNIVERSE blog thingee

Barbara Bruederlin said...

See you are a smart guy, Kelly. You have learned from your experiences. And I guess the sorts of things they would be asking you - cause of fire, was it arson, etc - could come back to bite you in the ass big time.

I only come across as a megalomaniac, for which I cannot be sued.

And of course, being more popular than GOD also helps.

kelly said...

actually you came across just fine...very artculate...and i never assumed any megalomania at all...we are our own worst critics

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks so much Kelly! That's really sweet of you!
Yeah, you can all be pretty hard on ourselves if we put our mind to the task.

Laurie said...

Well, Barbara, I'm decided to tell you that I will try to take the plunge this weekend...that is, to create my own blog! Yikes, it's really quite exciting...I am writing this at work, of all places. I thought that this kind of website would be caught by our screening process. I feel so adventurous...for you, this is all routine, I realize! You have inspired me!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Aww that's so sweet of you, Laurie! Have fun starting your blog this weekend. Make sure to pick a template that you can live with for a while, is my only advice - you'll be seeing alot of it. Personally I feel a little oppressed by the green on mine, but I'm too chicken to change the template.

John Mutford said...

"It's a small world afterall..."

Yes, Pierre worked there I believe- some sort of gene research. I don't think Cecile does but I could be wrong.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

John, how cool is that?

Very well written! Based on the content of your blog, I think you might enjoy some of the articles at my adult sex toys store site and hope you will give it a peek.
