I LOVE ...
Because tomorrow I get to listen to myself yammer on about myself on Eccentricity!
If you feel like listening, it you can hear it in real time at 4:15 pm MT (and again on Sunday at 8:50 am MT) right here. You have to click onto the Calgary link.

But you can also listen at your leisure on CBC Arts Calgary website for the next several months by clicking right here sometime after the broadcast tomorrow evening.
I'll put up a permanent link on the sidebar.
I hope I don't sound like too much of a dork.
And because the host of Eccentricity!, the wise and sassy John Spittal, is such a huge Joy Division fan, I pose this question to you all:
Is it okay for Joy Division fans to like Editors? Or Interpol, for that matter?

That's something else for me to write on my hand (my memory is worse than my grandma with dementia's). And to answer the Joy Division question, I'd like to think so. I think Interpol have some nice songs. And I like Joy Division.

But I'm kinda wierd.

I have to write EVERYTHING down Hilary - left foot, right foot, repeat...

I've changed my opinion on the Joy Division-like bands lately, and I'll fill you in tomorrow.

You could NEVER sound like a dork, you totally own all that is ingenious and saucy. I'm completely anxiously awaiting to perv while listening to your debut on CBC, are you feeling my stalker vibes yet? ;) I shouldn't joke about that. Shouldn't.

Wow you never cease to amaze me Barbara.

Massive good luck to you, break a vocal cord!

I woke up this morning thinking Wow it's going to be a great day because I will hear my blogger buddy Barbara B on the radio/internet today!! Can I be your stalker too?

Soooo excited for you. Yes, you must listen to yourself. I think it is ok to like music to draws heavily from another, but it is always important to understand the history. A well-crafted song is a well-crafted song in my opinion. Joy Division is pretty hard to top, but I think there are some newer bands (like the Killers) who are a bit catchier than their influences (like Duran Duran).

That's exciting! I hope I don't have a tour come through, I'm going to make my office listen as well :)

Ouch - can't imagine a broken vocal chord, Michelle. Sounds nasty indeed!
Your stalker vibes are coming through loud and clear and they feel pretty damn good, actually. They feel more like love. Same back at you, cutie.

Aww, that's so sweet of you BW, baby! I hope you won't be too weirded out by me - I know I will be. (always room for more stalkers, especially when they are you)

Will, thanks for the good wishes, sweetie!
I used to be pretty hard on bands that were very heavily influenced by others, but I've since reconsidered. I mean we all get our influences somewhere.
Your comment about the importance of understanding the history is so completely accurate. As long as people respect the source and give credit, it's all cool.

Oh no, not the whole office, Allison! Now I'm getting nervous. Thanks for your support, hon.

Barbara B is there something missing in the link I am not getting it to play.

hilary m. said...

yeah. I think the link plays on realplayer, and I don't have that. I listened to the Homestretch after school today, and it didn't seem to be there.

Allison said...

I had it playing, but a tour came through :( I'll look for the link later on

Jacquie said...

Great I will check it out online. Good for you Barbara!

Well, yes as long as all fans know the roots of the current music and pay respect (pouring a few imaginary drops to my fallen homie Ian Curtis). I go ballistic when people call anything released in 2006 punk (etc.)

John Mutford said...

I have dial up (I live in the stix), just spent about an hour downloading Real Player to hear it, and it still won't. I keep getting timed out or something. Argghhh.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

It plays okay for me, Barbara W, but did take a couple of minutes to start. And yeah, as Hilary says, you have to have RealPlayer to listen to it.

I started listening to the Homestretch about 3:50, Hilary, and didn't hear it either, so if you say it was on, Allison, they must have played it early.

I think I sound like a dweeb, but Jerry says it sounds just like me, but more bassy. So I guess I am a dweeb.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks Jacquie!
I think as Will said, it's the acknowledgement of what went before you that is important. I think there IS still punk being produced in 2006 (ie Propaghandi) but must is punk pop or punk pop lite. Yuck.

Oh I'm so sorry, John! All that effort for nothing. I'm not sure what to suggest. You can throw darts at my picture if it makes you feel better...

John Mutford said...

Did you feel that?

Barbara said...

For you Barbara B, I un-installed then re-installed realplayer. I finally heard it. Yeah!!! Not long enough I want to hear more.
You don't sound like I imagined, you sound better than imagined...
lol
I agree about it's like having coffee with other bloggers...

Barbara Bruederlin said...

OUCH! Right in the forehead, John! Good shot!

You did that for me, Barbara W? Thanks, and how sweet of you not to comment on my stammering.
I do notice that the Stroumboulopouli did not make it into the piece, sadly - I must have been really stammering at that time.

Allison said...

Had to update my realplayer, but I got a listen! Its funny, your voice was so similar to what I thought it would be. And I agree, blogging is like having someone over for coffee, except no real awkward pauses, and you can click away at any time. Is that a good thing? :) In my case, I think it is ;) Great job, I wish it was longer though.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks Allison! I'm sure there wouldn't be any long awkward pausses if we had coffee in the same place. But another thing I really like about meeting people on the blogs is not having to clean the bathroom.

Holy fuck... LOOK AT YOU GO!!!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

hahaha Jeff! Look at me, I'm a Super Blogger! LOLZ!

Barbara said...

Your not just a blogger you are a bloggist!

Leazwell said...

They say "well done" is better than "well said"... you have it both ways.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

hahaha - a bloggist!
Wait a minute, Barbara W - like the Machinist? Will I stop sleeping all together and lose, like, 60 lbs? Hmmm, maybe not all that bad an idea.

Awww, Leazwell, how sweet of you - thanks! I'm all verklempft now.

John Mutford said...

Finally, I heard it! Great job. Oddly, you sounded EXACTLY like I had anticipated- and that hardly ever happens.

You can pull that dart from your forehead now.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Do I really sound the way I look, John? That IS odd. Hmm, I'll have to affect an accent or something.

The dart will have to be surgically removed, as it is deeply embedded. Do you see how much I was feeling your pain?

Alana said...

It won't work for me, Barbara. :( I tried it a million times, it keeps saying "Requested file not found. The link you followed may be outdated or inaccurate."

*sigh*

Barbara Bruederlin said...

That's weird Alana - they're working okay for me. I'll try emailing you the link, because you know this is earth-shatterering stuff.
