Two More Sleeps Until Matty Time!
The above photo was taken at the Matt Good concert in Calgary last November by Teddy, who is a damned good photographer.
And on Wednesday, Matt is coming back to town again, but this time it's an acoustic concert, with ... get this ... cabaret seating. I'm not sure what that is, but somehow I picture Matt draping himself across a grand piano, singing jazz standards. I am completely pumped for this show, of course, Matt being one of my musical heroes.
Actually, I can't remember the last time I sat down at a concert. Coldplay, I think.

My stupid computer is at the shop, probably getting yet another new motherboard. Jerry was kind enough to agree to bring his laptop home evenings until we get our baby back, but my communications may be a little sporadic for a few days.
My home email is whack, so best to communicate here or through my work one.
I miss you guys already.

Love that guy! Thanks for the opportunity last year to see him perform, Barb.
Too bad I am on a tight budget such that I have to watch every penny that I spend...can't go see him...:(

Hope your baby comes home soon...

I've got my tickets for the E-town show. I'm so stoked... I just hope some drunk asshole doesn't ruin it for the rest of us.

I haven't sat down at a concert in years either. But then again, I stopped going to the Enormo dome venues years ago.

I only have one album by Matthew Good. None of his stuff has been released in the UK. It cost me a lot of money in shipping across the Atlantic back then. It's called "Beautiful Midnight" and it's pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up, Kelly the fireguy (even if you can't spell). We'll definitely plan to get there early, as it's bad enough being stuck behind 8-foot guy at a concert when you are standing and can move around.

That was a good concert wasn't it, Jas? However, looks like Jer won't be called away on business for this one, so I can't be throwing any last minute tickets your way. Too bad. Wait, no, I didn't mean it like that.
Thanks for the computer thoughts.

When's the Edmonton show, Jeff? Is it at a different venue than usual as well? I tell you, if anybody hucks anything at this show, I'm laying a beating on their ass. Or at the very least, I'll get all indignant.

haha Enormo dome! Good one, Ben! Yeah, I don't actually like sitting down at concerts, because you always need to dance a little, but...
Beautiful Midnight is still a favourite album of mine. I love Strange Days and Suburbia and A Boy and His Machine Gun, I could go on and on. He has really envolved a great deal since then, though. Let me know if you ever want to hear some more recent stuff from Matt Good and I'll set you up.

I'm totally jealous of you seeing the accoustic show. As we know, us maritimers aren't high on the priority list any more for anyone with any amount of fame.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

I know Stephanie! And I'm quite pumped about the acoustic aspect - I think that really is a strength of his (and hopefully will keep the asshole factor in the audience to a minimum).

Neil, I'm so sorry you guys get ignored by Matt (and countless others). It if were me, you know I'd play Halifax, and I'd stay at your house too!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks Bev, sucky grammar or not, we're going to groove at that concert. It's going to be like a date.

WolfHeart RavenHorse said...

Wow! A Date!!!! :) How romantic! Lar and I do those once in a while....they are always good!!!! Have a blast!

Oh Geez, Bev. It's Jerry and me - nothing romantic about us. Should be a good show though.

It's kind of nice to sit down at a show ... if the music warrants it. Have fun.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Thanks Will! This is the type of show that does warrant seating, as it will be completely acoustic. This will be a real departure for Matt Good, as his shows have always rocked pretty hard. But he's getting tired of having things hucked at him, of fighting with his band, and is maintaining the direction he headed in when he reworked songs acoustically for In a Coma.

I sat down at a Sigur Ros show, which was great; though, I didn't really like sitting for Modest Mouse and the Walkmen. The Walkmen really rocked out, and Will really wanted to get his groove on. Plus, we were sitting behind a couple Tooly McFoolys who only liked one Modest Mouse song - "Float On."

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Will, it's hard to be sitting when your groove really needs to be getting on.
Tooly McFoolys - hahaha - sounds like it's worse than sitting behind 8-foot guy, which is what usually happens to me.
