What are we going to do once the Olympics are over?
See? Didn't I tell you that curling was one of the greatest sports ever to watch?
And if you watched the Canadian men's team win the gold medal in curling yesterday you will know that all is right with the world.
I have liked this young Newfoundland team since I first saw them a few years ago and with the addition of the venerable and always entertaining crusty old Russ Howard, well that was a team made in heaven. I have also always liked the Finnish team skipped by Markku Uusipaavalniemi (don't you love Finnish names), so this was a great match up.
And speed skating! The glorious Clara Hughes, who is coached by none other than my colleague's wife, won gold in the 5000 metres. The Canadian speed skating team has been fabulous these games, with Cindy Klassen taking 5 medals.
But skeleton scares the shit out of me.

Barbara-mtl, these Olympics have been so much fun.
I have a friend who reads cards and such and she did mine a couple of years ago. The only thing I remember is she advised me to eat more organic food (not bad advice).

But once she took me to have my palm read and I was told that I was "not of this earth" and, while I don't know what that meant, it did kind of freak me out.

I sure would be interested to get your take sometime. Am I some kind of alien?

I take that as a go ahead. I will get back to you with it in the next couple of days then. You may be an earth angel but you ain't no alien as far as I know.

They only showed a few clips of the winter olympics over here. I looked at the U.K viewing figures for the shows and it was a tenth of those watching the International Rugby, European Champions League Soccer. We never really get to know much about winter sports.

Go Team Canada, woo hoo, RIGHT ON!!! I'm all for Canada winning anything, yay!!!

I have to admit, you've gotten GOB and myself to start watching curling based on your enthusiasm. The girls actually watched a curling match the other night - Ash was slightly freaked out when she realized what she was doing. She goes "mom, I just watched a curling match. I didn't understand it but I liked it." And I was like "oh shit."

Speed skating, that stuff scares me. And congrats to Clara, your colleague's wife, and TEAM CANADA!

Ooh, reading cards. GOB does that to a very uncanny degree, he's spooky that way.

It was great to watch Clara Hughes go for the gold. Xulie skated a few meters with her in each lap encouraging Clara! It was great to finally see Xulie on the screen. :)

Barbara-mtl, thanks for offering to do a reading. Please only do so if you are interested and have the time. I do have to ask, though: What's an earth angel?

Ben - soccer/football/rugby, those are the strength sports in the UK, so I guess it's only natural that's where people's focus will lie. It's a shame though that you don't get to see much of the winter Olympic sports - they are highly entertaining.

Michelle - thanks for your support of all things Canadian. You had better be careful, my dear, or if you do make a trip up here, you may just be kidnapped and held until you become citizens, mwahahaha! My apologies to your girls for their corruption to the evils of curling.
GOB reads cards? How intriguing. I would have placed him more as counting cards, haha.

Jas, I didn't actually see the race so I missed Xuili, but I did see her interviewed at Salt Lake City. She is very telegenic, isn't she?

An earth angel {in my mind}is a person that from time to time takes action on the behalf of others who need help. In other words does the work of angels...

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Jen, it's those tight suits that make you think the Olympics are gay, right? Just pretend they are wearing cowboy hats and all will be right with the world.

Barbara-Mtl, your description of an earth angel pretty much describes parents as well, if I may say. I guess we all act as somebody's angel every now and then, whether we want to or not.
