In the words of my friend, GOB: "don't blame me - I voted for Giant Douche"
- actually I voted NDP, but WTF ...
trying to count my blessings:
1. it's a minority government (meaning another election in 20 months, I'll wager)
2. at least the Conservatives took some power away from the Bloc in Quebec
3. the NDP made considerable gains and Jack will act as the conscience of the nation

Barbara,

Wow, quoted. On your blog. On YOUR Blog! Wow. I am floored.

Sorry about the *New* Conservatives in power. We in the US would have no idea what that feels like...

I will drink a shot of Canadian Whiskey in the hopes of easing your suffering, it will surely ease some of mine.

All the best,

GOB

Ok, pardon my complete ignorance of Canadian politics... what is "the Bloc"?

GOB, if you only knew how often I quote you in my everyday life, you would be creeped out.
Thank you for your sympathies, even though I know it is difficult for you to understand the Canadian situation, what with your ever-so moderate administration and all.
Whiskey always helps.

Andy, I can certainly understand how confusing the political landscape up here would appear to a non-Canadian. Heck, many Canadians are confused. To answer your question, the Bloc unfortunately does not refer to the oh-so-sassy British band - Bloc Party, but is instead the Bloc Quebecois, whose primary mandate is the separation of Quebec from Canada. They ranked 4th in the number of seats won in the federal election. Weird eh?

You said it, Bev. Andy is an amazing photographer. I can't even begin to comprehend where one gets that sort of inspiration.

I'm very much into the fact that you have Jian Ghomeshi quoted on your blog. That man ... I won't start, or I'll never stop.

That is totally all I wanted to say, I haven't got any intelligent commentary on the election, I think I used it all up prior to hearing Sloan blasting at Jack Layton's campaign headquarters. I love him, too.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

You're preaching to the choir here, Ruhee. Jian is the man. And he has the eyes of an Arabian princess, to quote Sook-Yin Lee.

I heard about Jack Layton playing Sloan at his campaign headquarters. I always knew Jack was kewl.

Ruhee said...

I heard about the Arabian princess thing! Cool CBC types - it's the way to go. In the old archives of >play Jian is wearing this ridiculous ruffled pink shirt also, and apparently there were all these letters and e-mails asking him if he was gay. He totally played it up. I often wonder what it would be like if he had had Rufus Wainwright guest star on that show.

Barbara Bruederlin said...

That would have been otherworldly. It would have rivelled when Jian talked about "making sweet love with Don McKellar, metaphorically, of course".

Have you heard Jian and Sheelagh Rogers discuss their mutual crush on Chris Murphy? That conversation has RUHEE written all over it!

Ruhee said...

I remember the Don McKellar comment. I think I must have giggled for days.

Eva told me about Jian and Sheelagh dishin' it about the Murph but I sure haven't heard it! Kind of a disappointment. If you find a clip or something do share.

Hye, you're welcome Jen. I hope you find some stuff you like.
Jerry had to go out of town overnight, and he stole my jen mix to take along. Again! He is hooked and I've barely had a chance to listen. Bastard.

I think that that if you knew how many times GOB quoted you, you'd be screaming for a restraining order... *wink*

You two worry me sometimes. In a good way, of course!

Barbara Bruederlin said...

Michelle, really? Au contraire re the restraining order - I'm actually flattered! But you should start worrying because I quote you all the time too haha.
