Uh, thanks Ralph ... I guess
The Canada West Foundation says that over a third of Albertans would rather see the $400/person rebate cheques go to improving services. Yeah, me too.
Oh, if I receive it, I will spend it. Don't get me wrong; I'm far too big of a hypocrite to send it back or give it all to charity. Besides our house desperately needs rewiring before the bloody thing burns to the ground. But I don't think we should be receiving them at all.
Firstly, it smells like a vote buying scheme. Secondly, it's going to cost a pile to send them out to everyone. And, sorry Ralph, but no matter how many Christmas presents you buy me, you are never going to be my favourite uncle.
How about building some new schools, hiring some more teachers, doing away with health premiums, or hiring more doctors? How about looking after some homeless people?

I adore that picture of Ralphy! It is sooo him! I too don't believe that we should be getting these cheques. Why can't they lower our taxes? Why can't they put all that money into our school! Why do parents have to fight to get help for their kids in school!! I know, I have fought the good fight and will continue! It's frustrating! They can hand out all this money, but when a child needs help, well, they need at least 900 reports, at the parents expense, done!! Stupid Ralph! So, as you can tell, my money is going to pay for reports Katie needs to have done in order to get her an aid for school! Pisses me off.

Ralph is good at robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Here in NS the Torie government did something similar to this, handily enough, just a few months before an election! About a year later, we ended up paying it back through new taxes because they didn't realize exactly how much they were handing out...

If there is a surplus in any government coffers, I think that it should go to public interests, but not their bank accounts directly. Like you, all of us would think "bonus" and spend it on stuff that we may not need. Although, come to think of it, I'd probably put that on my credit card debt....

Anyway, bottom line, my two cents, whatever you wanna call it, they should take that money and give it to Nova Scotia. ha ha. Just kidding but they should put it into health care, roads, school, anything like that. Or maybe even giant mechanical ants (ala Bart Simpson) that could protect our borders from unwanted Americans. lol

Neil, good to have the perspective of one who has already been there. The shortsightedness of governments is infuriating. Bring on the mechanical ants!

I'd agree with the surplus being used towards advancement of public interests (get more doctors for God's sake: its is so difficult to find a family doctor!!).
Nevertheless, I'd use that money to pay for my debt!!
