What I Did on My Summer Vacation

The kid goes back to school tomorrow and I go back to work, regular schedule, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I took quite a lot of holidays this summer and put them to good use.

  • week at Lesser Slave Lake (and Conehead the dog)
  • no Stampede (Eva goes solo)
  • winning big Folk Fest contest and getting published in Swerve
  • Folk Festival
  • getting John K Samson's autograph
  • starting blog
  • Fringe Fest with the Marthas

Future events I'm panting over:

  • George Stroumboulopoulos's lecture at the library - Sept 16
  • Matt Good releases In a Coma - Sept 20
  • My birthday, when I open my present (please be In a Coma, please be In a Coma) - Oct 10
  • Going to Winnipeg (and then Brandon and Neepawa) for mom's birthday - 84! - Oct 14

Songs I'm currently obsessing over:

  • Miracle Drug - AC Newman
  • anything from Shine a Light - The Constantines (I still really really really like Young Lions, but I don't ever want to get tired of it, but National Hum, Insectivora, and Tank Commander (Hung Up in a Warehouse Town) also have very fine grooves)
  • Pledge of Allegiance - Matt Good
  • A Boy and His Machine Gun - Matthew Good Band
  • Sit Down - James

Ooooh, and now I really feel like hearing Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah.

Yeah, that's a good version - very hearfelt. The name of the album is Grace.

Rufus Wainwright's is also good, in that whiney Rufus way. (Don't get me wrong, I think that whine is endearing).

So true, Melody. He is adorable. I've got pics of John from when I was stalking him on my folk festival post from July, if you want to check them out.
